Sass & Bide

Spirit Kisses…

Just arrived in store, Sass & Bide’s newest range for summer, their resort 08 collecion entitled ‘ The Spirit Kiss’.

Described as a modern interpretation of an idealistic bohemia, the collection see’s faded animal prints contrasted against distressed denims and zig-zagged cheesecloths- creating a contradicting yet balanced collection which has been crafted around the notion of the ‘optimisitc global traveller’.

This embellished collection is certainly not shy of any of the designer duo’s signature detailings with plenty of sequins, fringing and studs.

The Spirt Kiss features vests, cute summer dresses, jumpsuits and short shorts as well as lots of your favourite Sass & Bide printed tee’s.

Also included are the versatile "Cracker Jack’   pant- a dressy relaxed cargo pant in a soft khaki colour- these hot little numbers are being cited by fashion editors and stylists alike as the must have pants for summer. ( see pic below)

Upbeat and Hopeful of what lies ahead for summer, the Sass & Bide girl is a finder, a collector, a dreamer and a gypsy…happily collecting this myriad of cultures to create her own bohemia, ‘ the spirit kiss’.

Five minutes with Kirsha from Salasai…

We had a quick chat with Salasai designer Kirsha Whitcher during last months Fashion Week, who gave us some behind the scenes info about her upcoming winter collection ‘ Cruel and Kind’( due in stores March 2009) and the inspiration behind her designs.

Kirsha teamed up with Jeep NZ as her major sponsor for the show this year and showcased her collection on top of a downtown Wilson Carpark.

Inspired by the Amazon Jungle, and films such as ‘ The Last Mohican’, the glass encased venue and urban style make-up and hair were the perfect compliment to Salasai’s striking and bold designs.

“ The range has a strong Amazonian jungle theme with an early 90’s tip- we wanted to create our own tribal yet modern silhouette,”

Witcher sent out her models to the runway complete with fabric dreads and bold eye makeup. The collection featured draped knitwear and silk chiffons and bold prints of purple, lilac and bright cobalt blue.

Gone are the skinny-minnie pants from summer as Witcher opted for more 90’s shapes with baggy trousers, oversized singlet’s and hooded tops- with the ‘buffalo pant’ and giant knitted cardigan cited as the designers key favourites for the season.

The signature ‘cruel’ print of the season, scattered throughout dresses and pants alike, gives relevance to the entire range with what Whitcher describes as having ‘childlike native brushstrokes’.

Since we first started stocking it last winter, Salasai’s directional and unassuming ‘boyish’ style designs have become a favourite of all customers at Superette (and ours too!).

The pieces are wearable and flattering shapes that slot perfectly into any of our customers wardrobes- 90’s fans or not!

But for now, with a long and hot summer on our weather forecast, put winter to the back of your mind and come and check out Salasai’s summer collection,’ Cold Blooded’ that is in store now.
